Him....working....

I’m not sad about the fact that we failed
I’m disappointed of the fakeness that unveiled
I held you up to standards set so high
But you couldn’t even see the pressure you could apply
You could set the world on fire
Use your intelligence to create and inspire
It’s sad to see a beautiful soul surrender
To the fetishes, the vices, and all the splendor
Of all the worldly things sent to distract us
Trying to tell everyone your worth, nigga that’s pretentious

Caught up in all the hype
Forgot you could be the next prototype
You’re blending right in when you could be a lot better
But learning you was more pointless than a chain letter
I should’ve kept you in that angelic light
The one where you the winner, the white knight
You were able to save society
Instead you’re out here battling sobriety
You should be the one paving new ways
Inspiring kids and leading the strays
Showing them exactly what it takes
And teaching them to move on beyond their mistakes
That everyone deserves a chance in this game
But the man got to you, what a shame

Facade... working....

Its all a façade
Everybody catching bods
But despite all the company we keep
No one seems to say anything too deep
Everyone is in some kind of pain
But don’t no one know how to explain
What goes on inside of their hearts
Everyone around them ain’t doing their part
It takes a village to raise kids
But for people to help each other it seems like God forbids
They don’t wanna see you doing better than them
But we can all be crème de la crème
In our own paths and lanes we create
Can’t we see, we can all be great

Theres a place for each and everyone of us
Money to be made, out here it’s a surplus
But everyone trying to be like the next
Posing for IG, only focused on showing up their ex
We lost sight of what really matters
Seeing all the lost souls, my heart shatters
Praying for the simpler times
When we weren’t over exposed to each other’s crimes
Back in the day when didn’t have 1000 people at our fingertips
As soon as a problem arises, we jumping ships
On to the next one
You barely got to know son

I wish we could all just listen to each other
Understand that we’re all somebody’s sister or brother
That we all have our own story to tell
That we all have our own battles through hell
We all have our demons and fears
We all pushing through emotions and tears

Love or Respect? ...working....

Do you wanna be loved or do you wanna be respected
I watch niggas on IG
Sipping liquor, like its from an IV
Hoes every other night
Popping bottles and getting right
In the morning its back to his family
He’s got a daughter and wife in reality
The people who see him best
Know better than to believe the rest
He’s smiling, telling his wife he love her
Show her off to the same bitches he put before her
When his daughter grows up and starts to understand
Will he step up and be a better man?
Morning after morning, night after night
Succumbing to the vices, giving up the good fight
The fight that we fight to replenish the soul
Not realizing all the fakes in his circle is taking a toll
This life we keep living just ain’t the way
The habits that we practice don’t match what we pray
Do we wanna be loved or do we wanna be respected?
If we chose the latter, can we stand being neglected?
Or do we need the love and approval of others
Do we need to know we got the support of our brothers
Or can we walk alone and forge our own path
Can we walk through opposition and feel the devil’s wrath
What will we do when there’s nothing left
The hoes, the clothes, life took by theft
Do we wanna be loved or do we wanna be respected?
Or will we stop when the whole world’s infected
And there’s no more fun to be had
Will buddy stand up and be a dad
Or will it be too late to start making amends
Because his daughter is older and started following trends
Just like he did when he had more power
Now she won’t listen, and he watched the world devour
His most prized possession that he loved so much
She don’t want a word from him, not even a crutch
Now the hurt he’s feeling is too much to bare

Now the only person who matters doesn’t even care.
